How To Find The Motivation To Pursue Your Fitness Goals

Summer is fast approaching and people wish to lose the winter weight and get beach body ready. Much like the New Year’s resolution, they only last for a couple days or weeks. The work will be hard but very rewarding, but the question is how are people so successful at getting their results?

In one word, it’s Motivation. Motivation is what gives you consistency and the drive to succeed to meet your fitness goal. You can’t get fit overnight. You’ll come up with excuses along the way, “it’s too hard”, “I’m too sore”, “I’ll just eat one more piece of whatever”. You become fit if you are consistent with your exercise program. And in order to regularly exercise, you’ll need to be motivated enough. So today, we’re going to give you a few tips on how to keep your motivation up.

If you’re just getting started with exercise, your end goal will hit you in the face on your first workout. You’ll get hit with your first mental gut check. Keep your eye on the end result. When deciding to run a half-marathon, you may not be able to run one mile the first day. As de-motivating this may sound, you have to focus on the positives. One mile today was more than yesterday, and tomorrow will be better. Implement short-term goals to celebrate your successes. Maybe in one month you’ll be running six miles, and laugh at how you struggled with the one mile you were barely able to do.

Another reason for failing is not making your fitness goal a priority. It’s easy to talk yourself out of your workouts, but keep focused on your goal. “I’m tired” or “I’ll make it up tomorrow” are the most common excuses, and most people never follow through. Stay strong mentally and celebrate that you’re staying on track.

“I don’t want to do this by myself.” Self-motivation is developed and not something people have inherently. Find a friend or make new ones in whatever avenue of fitness you plan on pursuing. Force yourself out of that comfort zone. Fitness plans never have to be a chore to do and you can make it better by taking it on with other people. Even when the other person skips out on a workout, find the motivation to continue – “Working out today will make me even better than so-and-so”.

Stay motivated and you will attain your goals and look to pursue new ones. It’s about being mentally stronger, and even that is a success in itself. Don’t let others talk you down.
